The
2009 summer interns are Erik Healy and Roger Tenant Jr. Erik is
a raising senior at Clemson University majoring in Horticulture.
Roger is a senior at Florida A&M University majoring Landscape
Design and Management. This year the interns selected a restoration
project that included a low maintenance weed control area. The
area stretches from the Crape Myrtle Ally to Pine Bay and is in
between the Fire Tower Barn/Lane and the Rose Field. The project
called for a Sharecropper House, which was gracefully donated
by a neighbor. The interns hired a local house moving company
to move the house on site. The interns designed a holding pond
within a flood plain. A series of weirs were used to hold the
water in the pond and flood plain. The flood plain was planted
with plants that like swamp like conditions.
