The Vegetable Garden
In the organic vegetable garden of Moore Farms,
one can find watermelon, peanuts, tomatoes, melons, okra, eggplant, butter
beans, corn, cucumbers, squash, zucchini, strawberries and blackberries,
among many others. Moore Farms gardens its vegetables organically for
numerous reasons. Organic gardening is economical. While organic produce
is often more expensive in the grocery stores, organic vegetables are
not more expensive to grow. Organic gardening requires only naturally
occurring items which are cheaper and easier to acquire than synthetic
chemicals. Organic gardening has many benefits for humans. Organically
grown food is higher in essential vitamins and other nutrients, beneficial
for fighting disease and cancers. Compost usage, a large component of
organic gardening, prevents waste from being dumped into landfills. Organic
gardening develops the soil by adding layers of organic material, nourishing
the soil instead of depleting it. Healthy
soil equals healthy food equals healthy people. Organic gardening is not
a trend or new in any way, but rather, organic gardening is the oldest,
least expensive and most practical means of growing vegetables that exists.
Here in the vegetable garden, we agree that synthetic chemicals, fertilizers,
pesticides and herbicides are harmful to our bodies and our Earth.
